Wayne was born and grew up in Perth, Ontario, in the Ottawa Valley. At the age of 21 he was working for the Bank of Nova Scotia, and he travelled through the Maritimes as a Bank Inspector, ending up in Calgary.
He and his wife Barb were married in Perth on the 21st of May, 1966. After 35 years in Alberta, they moved to the Okanagan in 2003. At that time he started doing the Bluegrass circuit in the interior of B.C., and joined the Westbank Country Opry in 2006.
Wayne loved listening to country music in the 1950s. His heroes were Hank Snow, Webb Pierce, Merle Haggard, and Waylon Jennings.
In 1965 Wayne started playing guitar around campfires, and enjoyed going to country dances. Wayne also enjoys playing hockey.
