I have enjoyed a lot of music over my life time thanks to my parents who insisted I take piano
lessons when I was 10, 11 and 12 years old. My brother was learning guitar and so in our early
teens we started making music. People like Johnny Cash and Meryl Haggard were just getting going
in country music so that was my starting point. I had 2 friends who played drums and base. The next
year I started playing rhythm guitar and we started a band called THE KOUNT 1V. We were very
successful playing around the valley at Discos, wedding and teen dances etc. Over time our group
changed players and we played under different names with our most successful group being THE
POSSE. I played rhythm guitar, key boards and did most of the lead singing. Then, work and family
became more important and I stepped away from the band life. Karaoke was introduced to Canada
at Expo 86, so I continued singing to ready made music. My construction job took me in and out
of town over the years making it impossible to belong to a band. My Karaoke machine became my
best musical friend and still is today. I have been able to sing with some great voices along the
way, including the likes of Deb Stone. I entered a BC Country Music Association contest at the OK
Corral in the early 80’s where I became a finalist. I have started strumming my guitar more now
that I am retired and more spare time. I can remember being annoyed at my parents for making me
take those lessons but I have come to believe it was the best gift I have ever received.
