John Banman
John was born and raised in Abbotsford, B.C and has always involved himself in music. He sang in church choirs , community choirs etc. He sang in the musical “Jesus Christ Super star”
in the spring of 2018, in Vernon, where he now resides. He started playing guitar at age 14 playing mostly country music but formed a rock band in his teens. He played the folk scene in
Vancouver in 1969 and 1970. He got married in 1971 and moved to Alberta with his wife and two daughters. He joined a local Country Opry Show and played with the band for more than 20 years. This is where he met our very own, Lavern Panich. He also managed to play with another rock band for approximately 2 years, playing for dances, weddings etc. He did a writing workshop with Murray Mclaughlin in 1987 with 7 other lucky songwriters in Edmonton. John put out 2 C.D.s titled ” I Got Song” and “Blue as my Guitar”. John still plays in coffeehouses in and around the Vernon area where he enjoys singing, playing and sharing music!
